Sam was born on January 07, 1974 to Jackie and Mike Carter. She was so sadly taken on October 26 2007 at the young age of just 33. The emptiness Sam has left in all of our lives can only be understood by people who knew and loved her. She was an inspiration to almost all she met. We are so very proud of her and miss her deeply. Steve and Sam's family.

The person that Sam grew up to be is a wonderful credit to her family.
She was the most amazing person I ever met. Sam was a true inspiration to us all. We were all so lucky to have shared our lives with her. Her love of life and spirit touched almost all she met, even during her lowest moments in dealing with her illness, she could reach out and change somebodys day with just a smile or a kind word.
My heart goes out to them for the sad loss of such an amazing Daughter, Sister & Auntie.
She will be deeply missed.
Steve
In progress
Sam liked nothing more than a girls night out. She loved music, anything she could dance to. She had some amazing, true friends who showed their love for her during her illness. A handfull of friends were there for her all the way to the end, even doing her nails for her in the hospital bed :)
She truly was the life and soul, friday nights will never be quite the same.
We first met on a night out in bar. I dont think she thought too much of me at first but i didn't give up. I could tell she was special.
Unknowingly, I had seen Sam about a year earlier in another local pub. I only realised it was her when she said she used to go there with no hair due to her chemo. I knew straight away that I had seen her, someone that bald and that beautiful sticks in your brain :)
We started seeing eachother on & off, I was going through a divorce and had 2 children so it wasn't that straight forward. She was a lovely person to be with and my children adored her, she constantly had them in fits of laughter.
Her cancer returned about 3 months after we met, the strength and bravery she showed over the next 3 and a half years was extraordinary.
I never believed it would come to this, her doctors were great and we were so positive. I feel very fortunate to have met Sam and for her to choose to spend her last years with me. I was with her at the end, and although it broke my heart, I am so glad i could be there for her.
I love you Sammi and I miss you so much
Steve
We spent a weekend in Paris, shopping and eating. We saw the Moulin Rouge show and climbed the Eiffel Tower.
We went to Sharm-el-Sheik for a week in May 2005, snorkeling in the Red Sea and enjoying the casinos of Narma Bay.
Sam and her friend Debbie took part in the Race for Life 2005. Sam raised just under £1000 for Cancer Research. Despite being on chemo at the time, she smiled all the way through the day..
We went to Hisaronu in Turkey for a week. Sam loved this place and we met some really nice people. We always vowed to go back there one day. We will go again, I know she is with me.
This was my 2005 Xmas present. A weekend in Madrid, with tickets to the Real Madrid game. Beckham scored the free kick that he describes as 'the best goal of his career', and we were there!!! On the Sunday after the game, we ate in the Real Madrid restaurant that overlooks the pitch. She always put so much thought into gifts for people, its just part of what made her so special.
In July 2006, we went to Hanbury Manor in Hertfordshire. It was a pamper and relax weekend we booked to help Sams recovery from radiotherapy treatment to the head.
This was Sam's second Race for Life. She took part with her brothers fiancee Jodie, her friend Michelle and Jodie's sister Carly. She raised £2500 for Cancer Research. Sam was at her happiest when she was doing something to help others, despite her own health. This can only be truly shown in next years race for life...
We went to Corfu at the end of July 2006, Sam had just started a new course of chemo for her lungs. This was a very quite holiday for us compared to the others. She had complete relaxation for a week, and total sunshine that she loved.
This was Sam's xmas present for 2006. We were scheduled to go in January 2007, but she was put on another course of chemo for her lungs so we postponed it until it fitted in with her treatment. We eventualy got to Venice at the beginning of March, planning to stay for 3 days. Venice is amazing, and we both loved it. Unfortunately, Sam fell ill on the last day of our trip, and we ended up staying in a hospital in Treviso for 5 extra days until she was allowed to travel home. We never got to go on the Gondola but it was still the most amazing weekend we have had.
Sam took part in her 3rd Race for Life in 2007 despite major health problems. She was awaiting Gammaknife surgery to her brain for a persistent tumour, and was on a large amount of medication. She managed to complete the circuit in about an hour with my daughter Hannah. I was so proud of her on this day, but also so worried because I knew she was very unwell. She raised over £2000 for Cancer Research. I only hope I am blessed with half the courage Sam showed given the same challenges. She really was a true inspiration to us all.
There are no words to describe the sadness of this day. The hole you left in our lives when you were taken so early will never be filled. Our only comfort is that you are now happy and free from pain & worry. We miss you Sammi, we will see you again one day soon.
Simons tribute to his sister :
Good afternoon to everyone,
You will have to forgive me for reading this speech from my notes as a speech in these circumstances it’s not really something that you can rehearse. The last time that I spoke in public was when I was Darren corners best man, I had rehearsed that speech loads of times and still messed that up so that why I’m going to have to read this.
Right, thats my apologies out of the way.
Firstly can I thank all of you for coming, Its overwhelming to see so many of you here.
I’d now like to say a few words about my beautiful sister.
Being Sam’s brother I never really new how much she loved me and I loved her. I guess we were a typical brother and sister always getting on each others nerves and in our younger years often literally fighting (well should would lay into me and I would just have to curl up in a ball and let her let rip cause dad would never let me lay a finger on her, and believe me there were times when I wanted to I can tell you.
To be quite honest she was a bit of a pain, it’s like when we had sorted out the music for today, and the next track to be played is labbi sifree “something in side”. Now Sam bought me this CD years ago as we both absolutely loved it, I says to Steve don’t worry that’s indoors I remember when Sam bought that for me. Could I find it? No chance, she has obviously nicked it back off of me even though she bought it for me!!!!
I could honestly stand here all day and bore you all with my stories but I’m feeling kind today so I’ll let you off.
Now to the hard part,
I didn’t honestly realise how much love I had for my beautiful sister until now and I honestly didn’t realise how many of your hearts that she has touched. It’s become apparent that she just had this natural happiness and kindness about her that seemed to just filter into the minds and bodies of those that she met and shared friendships with.
This has manifested itself through different tributes from you all and through comments from the wonderful nurses that cared for her through her illness and especially from her cancer specialist Dr Trask.
A quote from Dr Trask to Steve (for any of you that don’t know Steve is Sam’s partner). “I have twenty thousand cancer patients and if there was only one that I could save it would be Sam”
A quote from her nurses at Southend hospital. “Her personality rippled through the ward like a pebble being thrown into the water “
I think you will all agree she was a special person.
Those of you that know us well are aware that we both aren’t angels, we’ve had our fare share of doing naughty things, but I have to say that from the above it is plain to see that it is a credit to our mum and dad in the way that they have brought us up and I speak for myself and Sammie that we are so grateful to them for that.
I would also like to say thank you to Steve who has been an absolute rock. Sam could not have been in any better hands than those of Steve and the nurses on the Elizabeth Lowry ward and I know that she loved Steve more than anything and I’d just like to say that Steve you will always be a part of our family. I think the world of you mate.
I think that you will all agree that life is much too short and I know that I’m am going to try my hardest to enjoy every day of my life as my sister Sam has been an inspiration to me and I hope to you all.
Steve sent me a txt message shortly after Sam passed away. It said “smile Si, She is happy again now” and that is so true. I wanted to share that with you all so you can all try to be happy at this very sad time.
Finally I would like to say that am gona miss you so bad Sam you will always be in my mind and my heart and I love you with all of my heart.
Thank you.
Donations from Sam's funeral topped £3500. We passed this onto the Elizabeth Loury Ward at Southend hospital where Sam was looked after in her last weeks. This was the newspaper article:
FRIENDS and family of a cancer victim have raised £3,500 to thank the hospital ward which looked after her before she died.
Samantha Carter, 33, from Wickford, died in October after a brave six-year battle against the disease.
Her friends, family and work colleagues wanted to thank the Elizabeth Loury ward, in Southend Hospital, who cared for her.
Boyfriend Steve Harvey, 35, of Pepys Court, Wickford, said staff on the ward were second to none in caring for Samantha.
He said: "The whole time she was there the care she received was absolutely fantastic. It's been so hard over the past few months - but her family and I have stuck together.
"Raising the money was a way of saying thank you to the ward. She was incredibly popular and it's not surprising everyone wanted to donate money in her name. Her colleagues at Ford Dunton raised £1,000."
Mr Harvey described Samantha as an "inspiration" to others.
He added: "Even during her lowest moments in dealing with her illness, she could reach out and change somebody's day with just a smile or a kind word."
Sam was born on January 07 to Mike and Jackie carter.
They are both so proud of the beautiful young woman Sam became and miss her dreadfully.
